Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a medical-cosmetic pigmentation of the scalp. Tiny dots imitate hair stubble and make thinning hair look denser.
What SMP can – and cannot – do
SMP does not grow new hair or stop hair loss. It creates a visual effect: either the look of a closely shaved head or more density with longer but thinning hair.
- useful for advanced baldness when a "buzz cut" look is desired
- to camouflage scars, e.g. after earlier strip-method procedures
- as a complement to a hair transplant to increase visual density
Longevity
Pigments fade over time; touch-ups after a few years are common. Colour choice and dot size are crucial for a natural result.
